1) write a short essay about your own journey in a boat ?
Ans) Once we had gone to a hill - station called Munnar .one morning we hired a boat and decided to row it ourselves .we were given a pair of oars . My father and mother used the oars and we reached the middle of the narrow river . thinking that rowing is easy . I snatched at the oar that was in my mothers hand . to my horror , the oar was very heavy and it slipped from my hand and fell into the river . we were terrified . fortunately , after a couple of minutes the current in the river brought the oar back to us . but I really thought at that moment that we would drown in that smaller river.
Ans . We can pour hot liquid glass , mould it , roll it , press it or even blow it .
3) Name of colours.
Ans. Glass can be given many beautiful colours - blue , violet , turquoise , ruby red , pink , amber , orange , deep yellow , purple , amethyst , dark green , even black and white.

Q .3 Write short notes on the following:
( 1 ) How glass is made .
Ans . Glass is made by heating a mixture of clean white sand and chemicals like soda and lime . The mixture is heated in a furnace till it turns into hot , liquid glass . When it cools down , it becomes stiff and hard .
( 2 ) How glass is shaped .
Ans . Glass is shaped into different articles when it is still hot and soft . It can be poured into moulds , rolled out , floated on a bed of molten metal , blown into shapes or even drawn out into fibres .
( 3) Some properties of glass.
Ans. Glass is transparent , it is strong and hard , it dose not allow water or other liquids to pass through and doesn't get soggy or stained and it doesn ' impart a smell or taste .
( 4) Coloured glass.
Ans. It is possible to make ordinary glass into colour and transparent glass by using different combination of chemicals in the glass making process . Glass can be given many beautiful colours like blue , violet , turquoise etc.
a ) Why did the ugly duckling decide to leave the Lake ?
Ans . The other ducklings did not like the ugly duckling . They teased him about his ugliness and would not allow him to join them for a swim . Finally , feeling very lonely and sad , the ugly duckling decided to leave the lake .
b ) What did he find wherever he tried to seek shelter ?
Ans . Wherever the ugly duckling tried to seek shelter , he found that he was always ridiculed by the other smaller birds , animals and even human beings .
c ) Why was the ugly duckling afraid to look at his own reflection ?
Ans . The ugly duckling was afraid to look at his own reflection because he thought that he looked very ugly .
d ) Whom did the ugly duckling meet in the beautiful garden ?
Ans . The ugly duckling met three beautiful , white swans in the beautiful garden .
e) Was he happy in the end ? Which lines tell us that he was happy ?
Ans . Yes , the ugly duckling was happy in the end . The following lines tell us this : He curved his slender neck and cried joyfully from the depth of his heart , " I never dreamed of such happiness as this , while I was an ugly duckling ! "

Ans . The beautiful swan was white and graceful . He had a slender neck , and he could fly high into the air . He could also glide lightly over the water .
